Fall golf is an awesome time to play. Most players have hung up the sticks for the year by now and there of course is some of the prettiest scenery to be found. The only trouble is that you can’t play early in the day a lot of the times. Frost tends to set in overnight and delays all play indefinitely.
You can not play on frosted greens. You will wreck the fragile grass. Well, that is what I’ve been told all of these years anyway. I have never challenged the notion; I figure that they are the experts. Anyway, what it does do is it puts a wrench into your schedule because the course never really knows when the greens will thaw. They guess but that is about it. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been set back because of frost. It’s really annoying to say the least. I guess it’s always better to call first than to make the drive or is it a great time to wait it out, have a bite to eat and a beverage with your fellow hackers? Hmmmm…
